Walking Nightmare for Migrants
The world is in crisis. People are
moving from place to place looking for jobs and a better life. The unfair
treatment of migrants needs to be addressed. Two issues that immediately come
to mind are housing and education.
First of all, housing is a concern
because migrants often have menial low paying jobs. Migrant farm workers in
Europe travel across the continent following the harvest. They often live in temporary accommodations offered
by the farmer. The conditions can be
sub-standard. The farm worker has no
recourse as he or she is dependent on the farmer for a salary. The migrant
doesn’t want to make trouble because he or she wants to return next year.
Another big issue for migrants concerns
their family life and the education of their children. Living in poverty hurts the entire family.
Children are often sent out to find work at a very early age. The money they
receive is used collectively by the family.
Consequently, many children of migrants do not finish their education.
They are caught in a cycle of poverty.
The problems that migrants have needs
to be addressed by our government. It is
important to help people that are in need and to help them live a more
productive and safe life. However, it is
also in the best interest of our government to help people live a healthier
life to keep costs to our national health care down. Helping children to reach their educational
potential will benefit the country as well as these young people will be
contributing members of our society.
